Thickness of thermal insulation
Print

Since buildings are designed to last and provide comfort for their current and future users, it is crucial to think ahead NOW, taking advantage of the technology and knowledge we currently possess.

Minimum thicknesses
- legal restrictions for the use of energy

In compliance with current regulations for energy design, the allowed maximum thermal transmittance is limited according to the type of building envelope (façade, roof, structure in contact with the ground or with a cold space…)

Recommended thicknesses
- for comfortable living in new and refurbished buildings

As buildings are designed and constructed to be used for decades, it is recommended to install thermal insulation in thicknesses that provide a pleasant living space in very cold days, but also in extremely hot summers, avoiding or eliminating the need to use air conditioning appliances.

Low-energy buildings
In the near future, according to European guidelines for effective energy use, low-energy houses will be the only option. In the design of new structures, the solution of energy independence is frequently chosen. Furthermore, the refurbishment of existing structures often targets very high energy efficiency and the maximum reduction of energy consumption possible. Such construction requires, besides the installation of thicker thermal insulation, precise design, strict compliance with energy regulations and the extensive application of passive building techniques.
