EUCEB Certification

FIBRANgeo stonewool products are certified by the Fraunhofer-ITEM (Certificate No. n.02G03002 of 05/19/2003). Directive 97/69/ EC introduced Note Q, specifically for mineral wool, which states that “the classification carcinogen need not apply, if it can be shown that the substance complies with certain conditions”. It is important to note that the European Commission confirmed the validity of Note Q, adopting the position of the Official Journal of the European Union No.C155E 07.03.2003 2003/C155/148, based on new epidemiological studies, including the IARC No. 81 of 2001.

The European Commission recently adopted EC Regulation 790/2009 (August 10, 2009), an amendment that adopted Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of the European Parliament and Council on classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures, published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 5.9.2009. The regulation was void for classification as irritant (R38) for mineral fibers.

FIBRAN has also proceeded in acquiring the voluntary certification mark EUCEB (European Certification Board for Mineral Wool Products) for all FIBRANgeo stonewool products. EUCEB is an independent organization whose procedures assure compliance of mineral wool insulation products with the Directive 97/69/EC. Further audits are performed by certified laboratories at regular intervals.

CE Marking (EU Directive 89/106)

According to the Decision of the Greek Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change No. 9451/208 (FEK 815/24-5-2007), construction materials produced and distributed in Greece should comply with the CE marking regulation as pronounced in the EU Directive 89/106.  Specifically, stonewool should be examined and certified in compliance with the European Standard EN 13162 "Thermal insulation products for buildings - Factory made mineral wool (MW) products - Specifications".

Stonewool undergoes initial tests (ITT) in a notified laboratory, in accordance to the requirements of Category 1.  Based on the results of those tests, the institute issues the Certificate of Compliance and the producer issues the Declaration of Compliace, which grants them the right to use the CE mark for their products.
